Project:Ormiston Senior College
Role:Building Services Manager
Client:Ministry of Education
Gemma brought her expert sustainability knowledge to the Ormiston Senior College project, sharing well-researched ideas and examples. She proved to be an excellent team player and a very good listener.
She brought the technology of natural ventilation system Windcather to the project that had never been installed in New Zealand before. The system was used because the two-story school is located under the Auckland Airport flight path, which meant that opening windows was not viable. With 23 years of experience in design and construction, Gemma was previously an assessor for United Kingdon sustainability tool BREEAM. She is now a NZGBC GreenStar Accredited Professional.
All costs were reviewed by Ministry of Education and Gemma was very aware of keeping energy operating costs to a minimum on this project. Gemma has strong views on preserving the environment and was persistent in working to achieve her goals. She showed diligence and conscientiousness in her work, ensuring all proposals she made had considered possible scenarios and pitfalls.
